Foot reflexology has emerged as a viable way to treat headache according to research from the University of Bologna.
Around 90% of adults in the UK have headaches at some point in their lives;
Tension-type headaches impact about 70-80% of people at some stage;
Migraines affect around one in seven people in the UK (approximately 10 million people).
Notoriously difficult to treat, experts are always looking for new ways to treat headache and migraine. Now a new evidence review has collated data about foot reflexology and headache management.
The bottom line is that headache treatment was found to be more effective when people had reflexology too.
There is ‘pressing need for more rigorous and high-quality research’ in the area the experts involved highlight. However, studies ‘collectively indicate a significant enhancement in treatment efficacy within the plantar reflexology groups when compared to control groups.’
The research is good news for people experiencing debilitating headache, especially as the experts involved say ‘plantar reflexology distinguishes itself as safe and non-invasive’.
